It’s Bruno’s birthday and on this day, a Thursday, he asks his friend Bert a very important question. He asks his feathered friend, “Where does Thursday go?” After all, it was so much fun as all birthdays are, but why did his day have to end so soon and where did it go when it was over?
Trying to figure out where Thursday goes leads friends Bert and Bruno on a nocturnal adventure that is sure to please any little boy and girl before bedtime. The illustrations by Stephen Michael King add a very whimsical feel to the book that makes them and Janeen Brian’s text the perfect combination for a picture book that belongs in the Hall of Fame. An additional note about the illustrations. If you’re not in love with the color blue when you first pick up this gem, you’ll fall in love with blue after your first read of Where Does Thursday Go? As for the text, I never tire of the splendid alliteration Janeen puts down on numerous pages. During my many readings of this book to my son, he first learned about that grammatical tool. Sure, he’d heard alliteration in other picture books, but nowhere so brilliantly as he heard it within the pages of Where Does Thursday Go?
If you can only buy one picture book ever, this is the book you should purchase. Of course, that could just be me. But the hardcover of this book is a piece of art and should have a treasured place on your child’s bookshelf.
Read Where Does Thursday Go? to your children or grandchildren and make sure to come back here when you do and leave us your comments. We’d love to have your thoughts on this wonderful book.
