Stink Soup by Jill EsbaumJill Esbaum is one of the more prolific picture book writers in the 21st Century. I consider Stink Soup, one of her classics. This story will be right at home in the hands of or in front of the eyes of any young boy or girl who does not like the taste, feel or smell of tomatoes. As a recent convert to liking tomatoes (sort of), I can relate to the Annabelle character within these pages. Annabelle and her little brother Willie are spending the week at Grandma’s and all of us can remember the fun in that experience, can’t we? Willie has his share of troubles which make this book fun to read for me and my son, who has had his own share of similar troubles, but instead of lassoing chickens, my son was lassoing goats (and getting dragged across a corral).

Stink Soup is a fun book to read and the Roger Roth illustrations are a great match for Jill Esbaum’s flowing words. You will enjoy reading Stink Soup time and again. I always enjoy it and my son does too. If the grandma in your child’s life doesn’t have a farm, find a farm somewhere your son or daughter can visit, and if that is not a possibility, then just buy this book and read it before bedtime, maybe they’ll float to a farm in their dreams.

If you’ve read Stink Soup to your children or grandchildren, we’d love to know your thoughts on this, one of my favorite Jill Esbaum titles.
