The Happy Man and his Dump Truck is a happy little simple book. It was first published in 1950 and most books of that time contained simple joys. It tells the simple story of a man who is happy and he gives farm animals rides in his dump truck. Some people will hate this book if they are concerned with social justice and want to judge everyone by the color of their skin (the opposite of what MLK Jr. desired). This is a book about a man who is simple and likes to give joy to others, no protests, no riots. The illustrations are magnificent as are illustrations from all Tibor Gergely illustrated books like those in Tootle, The Little Red Caboose and The Seven Little Postmen.
If you want to keep your children children for just a little bit longer, then read them some simple Golden Books like this one, The Happy Man and His Dump Truck.
